It heals quite a decent amount and even gives you +1 Str. The best food recipes are the ones that use a single ingredient, so you don't have to go hunt for this and the other, for example: bighorner meat -> big horner steak and you're done. Although, there are a ton of useless ones, as well. I haven't actually tried a dedicated explosives build, but it seems rather niche and somewhat deliberately limiting yourself.įor the record, there ARE more useful stuff available through Survival crafting at campfires. The explosives ARE powerful, but I find that just throwing a ton of ordinary grenades does the job well enough.

Those would be mostly useful for novelty's sake, as there are already alternatives to them present that could be easier to obtain and/or better. You can also craft some unarmed weapons and few melee ones and explosives. Usually the same vendors that already sell 10mm rounds to begin with.

And the energy weapon ammo crafting beats the gun ammo crafting, since for the latter you need several different components - you can't just go "Oh, I have a ton of 5.56mm rounds, let's just make them into 10mm ones" without acquiring more om vendors. Finally, you can make more efficient versions of each just by using the same ammo, e.g., 3 energy cells make 1 optimised energy cell that has a higher armour penetration and damage. You can also convert one type to another if you just ran out of juice for one energy weapon. If you're walking around with ED-E, it's an easy way to replenish ammo. The most useful recipes are probably the spent energy weapons - you get some just by shooting and later you can just recycle them into more ammo for free.

There are very few things you can get through a recipe that you can't easily acquire otherwise (it may be possible but you need to pray to RNGesus to get the item) but even then it's not anything really important that you can't go without. Even then, you only need scrap for other recipes which you can also skip by throwing caps at vendors.Īll in all, you're not really missing much. Besides, while you're swiping enough tableware to serve the entire NCR, you could just acquire scrap by purchasing it from vendors and stuff. If you have a bunch of forks you apparently can't turn them into scrap. A lot of the recipes are more hassle than they are worth - for example, to get scrap metal you need a full set of cutlery and a plate.
